When and why did you decide to continue your studies and athletic career in the United States?

I joined my current athletics club in 2018, where I had the opportunity to train alongside many experienced senior athletes. Several of them had studied at American universities, and regardless of how long they had stayed in the U.S., every one of them spoke very positively about the collegiate competition system and the overall experience. I made my final decision in 2023, when the renowned American coach Loren Seagrave also encouraged me to pursue this path.

What attracted you the most to the American college system, both academically and athletically?

I honestly can’t separate the academic and athletic aspects because what attracted me the most was the perfect balance between the two. Everything is integrated in one place. There are multiple academic advisors who help students succeed, and class schedules are often designed around training sessions, making it much easier to excel in both areas.

What was the application process like for you, both for university admission and your athletic scholarship?

During the fall, the Study N Sport team and I worked to contact as many universities and coaches as possible where there was a realistic chance of receiving a full athletic scholarship. Around ten schools expressed interest in recruiting me. We carefully evaluated several opportunities before ultimately reaching an agreement with the University of Kansas. From that point on, the rest of the process went very smoothly.

How did Study N Sport help you, and what was the biggest advantage of not having to go through the process alone?

The biggest advantage was their ability to connect me with the right coaches and universities. Based on my own experience, if you don’t already have world-class results, it’s extremely difficult to even get your profile noticed by top schools.

They also provided tremendous support throughout the visa application process. Many of the official websites and administrative steps can be confusing, and handling everything alone would have required an enormous amount of time and effort.

How are you feeling now, just before leaving for the United States? What emotions are you experiencing?

To be honest, I haven’t had much time to think about it yet because the Hungarian athletics season is still in full swing. Gradually, the time will come to say goodbye to my friends and everyone back home, but right now I’m so excited about everything that’s waiting for me that my excitement is much stronger than the sadness of leaving.

What are your expectations for college athletics, training, and competitions?

I want to become a true, 110% committed member of the team—not just another athlete on the roster. My goal is to score points for my team at the conference championships and make a meaningful contribution to our success.

I’ve already been in touch with several of my future teammates, and I hope we’ll become great friends both on and off the track.

What are your long-term goals, both athletically and academically?

My first goal is to earn my degree from the University of Kansas, which, if everything goes according to plan, I can complete in four years.

In athletics, my biggest goal is to break the 50-second barrier in the 400-meter hurdles during my college career. I also dream of qualifying for the NCAA Championships Final Eight, and I’d like to finish among the top eight athletes at the 2027 European U23 Championships.

What message would you like to share with young Hungarian athletes who are considering the same path but are still unsure?

I’ve spoken to several older athletes who had the opportunity to study and compete in the United States but chose not to take it—and today, they regret that decision. Don’t make the same mistake.

Maybe you’ll discover that this lifestyle isn’t for you. And if that’s the case, so what? You’ll come home a year or two later with invaluable life experience, strong English skills, and the satisfaction of knowing that you had the courage to try.
